The Change of Internet Marketing

If anyone has ever told you, "You need to take control of the new marketing strategy, called internet marketing," you need to know that they are absolutely wrong.

Internet marketing is not new. It's been around ever since the internet was made, and that's pretty old. However, even though the marketing is not new, the methods of the marketing are. Unfortunately, most of us marketers, have no idea that it's changed...which means a total failure in business if not grasped.

In the olden days, when the internet was just made, Yahoo! was the leader of the online world. You would pay Yahoo! to post your ad, and if you were lucky enough, it went through, and you would have hit big. You won over your competition. Now, is that rarely even true.

Internet marketing has changed, and now, essentially, the more money you use on it, the worse your marketing is.

The change was subtle, but it's something huge. So huge, that the people stuck in the world of the old marketing strategy are getting murdered by the companies who have grasped the new marketing strategy.

Before, you could buy your attention. Now, you've got to earn your attention. This is the change in the strategy of internet marketing.

You Need To Earn Your Attention

10 years ago, you could have a business that blends in with other businesses, and as long as you spent tons of money on marketing, you could still be successful. Now, if your business blends in with other businesses, you're just clutter, and people will ignore you, no matter how much money you spend on marketing.

You can't be successful anymore by how much your wallet holds. Now, you're only as successful as how much your idea's are worth. If you've got a business that's totally out of the ordinary, and stands out among the rest, than you've got an amazing business. But if your business blends in, than you've just got clutter, that nobody wants.

Here's a list that I made in order to help you guys see how you can make your business better, and stand out more:

1. "Find someone who is successful, and follow what they did," does not work anymore. If you just follow what someone else did, you're just making something that has already been made, meaning that there is nothing remarkable about what you're doing. You're just copying someone, and creating more clutter. Instead, follow the saying, "Find someone successful, and out-do them."

2. Be extreme. Be either on one end of a topic, or on the other, never in-between. Non, or Pro. Pick a side, than elaborate. Make your stand. People will notice you.

3. Be different, extremely different. Find something that no one's done, and do it. People will talk, and notice you. This is why a local yogurt store in Murrieta, White Lime, is so successful. They did something that no one else did, and now they have a business that everyone talks about. I talk about it with my friends, I take my friends there, and I recommend it to people. Word of mouth spreads fast. It spreads even faster when it's something worth talking about.

4. Don't make and/or sell cheap products. We can already get enough that at Wal-Mart, or the local 99¢ store. No one has time to talk about cheap, and crappy products. Nobody want's to talk about cheap, and crappy products. If they want cheap, they'll go to Wal-Mart, if they want big, and different, they should come to you.

Every day, it's becoming more, and more vital for businesses to stand out among the rest. The business with the most talk get's the most publicity, and the business with the most publicity wins. But you can't jump ships. You can't first try to get publicity, you must first get people to talk, than you can get publicity.

This is where the new marketing came into play. It added an extra step, before publicity, which is to get people to talk. Before, it looked like this:

Where the size of the circle, was related to how much effort you're supposed to put into it. Before, you didn't have to put much effort into building your business, but you needed to put a lot of effort into creating publicity for your business. Business was small, publicity was huge.

This is no longer true. The graph has changed, and people aren't realizing it. This is what the graph looks like now:

Not only have the words been changed around, but there is now a new element added onto the chart, "Talk."

Now, Publicity doesn't really matter, it's small. Business, matters a lot, it's big. And Talk matters the most, it's huge. Nowadays, you need to focus on making your business stand out, and better than the rest. That's why business is big. Then you need to create talk about your business, this is vital, this is how your business will hit it big, that is why talk is huge. Once people talk about your business, you don't need much publicity, because word of mouth is always a better advertisement, than a 10 second commercial at 11:00 P.M. on a monday night.

Business is your marketing plan. Talk is your advertisement. Publicity, is a free bonus. This is new marketing.

It Must Be High In Entertainment

This is my last follow-up on my post, Strategic Strategy of a Newsletter. I should make an e-booK!

But just to wrap up the last post, a fellow commenter, Thomas, has shown me some of the bad things that Word has to offer, in sending newsletters. So I will be updating that post in saying that plain text newsletters are the best of the three.

Now...let's begin with this post!

In our newsletter, we've now got both quality, and information, so now we've just got to work on the entertainment of our newsletter. Yes, every newsletter needs to have some kind of entertainment, or zest in it, in order to make it sizzle, and hook your readers attention.

This can easily be done by providing not only tons of information, but by also making your conversation sizzle by talking in first person.

Yes, yes, yes, I know, I know. You've heard people say that writing in 3rd person is the best way to create a "high-quality" newsletter, but that is rarely the case. Both sides have it's advantages, and disadvantages. I just so happen to enjoy talking in first person.

3rd Person Entertainment

This is usually done when using something like word, or css, html/xhtml, type of newsletter. These kinds of issues give more of a professional look, and create more of an "all-knowing" persona. This should be dressed-up by talking in 3rd person.

By talking in 3rd person, it naturally gives you a higher amount of credibility, and shows that you know what you're talking about. Making you seem more superior than your readers. Just by talking in 3rd person, you create a professor type of stand-point.

This is a great way to tell information, and also a great way to make a sale online. By showing your readers that you know what you're talking about, you can show them how much quality you put into your products. This is a great way to hook your readers into buying one of your products, or ventures.

The only thing that isn't so great about 3rd person entertainment, is the fact that your readers can't interact with you as freely as you'd want them to. Since writing in 3rd person gives you more of a static feel, your readers aren't able to socialize as much with you, since you only speak in 3rd person. Therefore, there is a sort of barrier that you're not able to cross, when trying to socialize with your readers.

What's the problem with less socialization? Incidently, the less amount of socialization, the less your readers feel comfortable buying from you. By not socializing, and sharing your stories, you're not able to create a relationship with your readers, which is one of the vital aspects that you need to grasp when trying to make a sale online.

This is why 3rd person entertainment, is not my favorite of the two. I believe in socialization, and building a relationship with my customers, for that will make me more sales online. I believe in building trust. The problem with 3rd person entertainment is that at times it seems dull, because the information is straight forward, so there is not much connection going on between the writter, and the reader.

1st Person Entertainment

This is my favorite of the two. By writing in 1st person, you are able to build a much better connection between your newsletter readers. Since you're writing in first person, you are able to switch between 3rd and 1st. You can talk about your life, speaking in I's, and me's, and then you can talk about the subject, without using I's and me's.

You create a way of writing in both ways. But by writing in 1st person, word, html/xhtml, and css doesn't really fit the persona of it. 1st person is usually accompanied by plain text newsletters, and sent at bursts. This is the main difference between 3rd person, and 1st person entertainment.

It may be a small difference at first glance, but it means a lot. By getting rid of a nice looking newsletter, you lose some bits of your professionality. Your readers won't take you as professionally as they would have if you had a nice looking newsletter.

But since you now have just a plain text newsletter, you loss some credibility, but you can quickly make up for it by using your entertainment, information, and quality. This is why I enjoy writing 1st person entertainment, since it delivers all three of the vital aspects needed to make any kind of quality product online.

By writing in first person, you create a much more social network with your readers. Your readers can relate to what you're saying, and get "hooked" more into your reading. By simply showing that you're someone just like them, you create an amazing relationship between you and your reader, and they will love to hear from you again.

Now, when you make a product, you have someone that not only thinks that you're a genius in your niche, but someone that also feels the way you feel, and trusts that you know what you're talking about, and -in theory- they will buy your product in a flash.

Think of 3rd person, and 1st person entertainment being the exact opposite -which they actually are- They both have their advantages, but they also both have their disadvantages. The choice is up to you, on which one you would rather choose.

Well, that's it for this newsletter series of posts! I hope you enjoyed reading it, as much as I enjoyed writing it! Keep a watch on the new posts I'm going to be putting up! You'll be glad you did!

It Must Be High In Quality

The second installment of the, Strategic Strategy of a Newsletter, we're going to be talking about the second vital aspect of creating an email newsletter, and that my friend, is Quality! Your newsletter must show quality if you expect to break the 100 dollar threshold that you can make from creating your own newsletter.

Initially, there are two different kinds of "quality." There's written quality, and then there's the "quality" of the appearance. Both vital, and very important when writing your issues.

We've already taken care of the written quality of our newsletter since we first needed to build information for our issue, but we have talked much about the appearance of our newsletter. Here's a simple break-down of how to make a quality looking newsletter.

1. The look and feel of your newsletter
2. The dates your newsletter is sent

There are only two parts to explain for this step of creating a newsletter, but they are both imporant subjects that I want to cover. Both of these topics are extremely important in order to build your newsletters credibility in your niche.

The Look and Feel of Your Newsletter

When creating a newsletter, you want to make your issue, easy to read, and makes your readers feel at home, and confortable. Don't make them feel boxed-in with your issue.

By creating a nice look and feel of your issue's, your readers will enjoy reading and it more, and look forward to the next installment. There are three different kinds of newsletters that your can potentially create, and those are

1. Plain text
2. HTML/XHTML
3. Word

Following are the pros, and cons of creating each version of the newsletters.

Plain Text

These types of newsletters are more of a quick memo of what the writter has found out about during the week. These types of newsletters usually focus around just one subject, so there isn't much room to both promote a new product, and give your readers new pieces of information.

A plain text newsletter is usually written as a one-column email text, and can be seen as boring, and plain. But this kind of newsletter acts to show more of an informative newsletter by describing different aspects of one idea. Sort of like a weekly shout of information.

Pros: Short, to the point, and informative
Cons: No leway of promoting your own products, can be seen as boring

HTML

This type of newsletter is actually my most hated kinds of newsletters. It takes way too long to create, and if you don't have an internet hosting service, this type of newsletter is simply out of the question.

An HTML driven newsletter needs to be uploaded to your internet hosting server, and is actually easy to gain access to for your readers. Creating a database of your newsletter issues is easy as well, but the quality of the newsletter isn't that all impressive.

Of course, if you're talented with web designing, and don't think it's that hard, than the HTML type of newsletter might work very well with you. If you're not HTML savvy, than I recommend that you don't use this kind of newsletter. But if you want to be a rebel, you can always find html/xhtml newsletter templates on google.

Pros: Easy to upload, and access
Cons: Takes up too much time, and uses up too much space

Word

This is by far, my favorite way to create an email newsletter. Not only is it an easy way to write an issue, but it's also easy to customize. So if you have word on your computer, (or something similar to it...i.e. mac's) than this will probably be your favorite.

You can find nice newsletter templates by googling it, or by creating one yourself...which is actually not that hard. Here is a quick lesson on how to create a newsletter outline, just by using the power of word.

Create a Newsletter In Word

Of course, you can also output your word formatted newsletter into PDF form, but the load time might take too long, and have your readers quickly click out. I don't like risking this, so I just use word, and email my newsletter to all of my subscribers.

If you don't know how to send a document on word to your subscribers email account, you can go to the following link, or just leave a comment, and I'll reply back to you...which I always do! : )

How To Send Your Newsletter From Word

The only thing that I don't like about word, is how careful you have to be when sending your documents, and attachments. If your computers got a macro virus, than it's going to send to your subscribers. So when taking part in creating a newsletter in word, make sure that you take the right precautions in protecting your subscribers from viruses.

Pros: Easy to create, send, and edit
Cons: Must send manually, macro viruses

If I had to choose, I would use word in order to create a newsletter -which I already do- because of it's simplicity. There are lots of word newsletter to download off of the internet, and are easy to edit to make into your own personalized newsletter.

The look and feel of your newsletter is vital to it's success, so make sure that you choose the right version of your newsletter. Each business should use a specifici newsletter, and only you know what to use. So make the best out of it!

The Dates Your Newsletter Is Sent

This little step in building your newsletters quality connects almost directly to your newsletters (and your own) credibility. If you say that your newsletter is monthly, than you MUST send it every month. If it's weekly, than you MUST send it weekly!

By flaking off, and saying that you're just not going to send it, shows a lot about you and your business, and creates a problem between you and your reader. A problem of whether your readers can trust you or not.

In order to avoid this problem, than you MUST send your newsletter at the times you said that they will be sent. No day late, or early (except for the casual burst of information) or else you're going to be fighting a losing battle.

Punctuation is key for your newsletter, so make sure that you take care of it. These two things are very easy to mess-up when trying to build the quality of your newsletter, so make sure that you get them right. You MUST be able to have a nice presentation on the internet.

Because, in the online world, your impression can mean the difference between $1,000 and $0.

It Must Be High In Information

Continuing on about my last post, Strategic Strategy of a Newsletter, we're going to be talking about one of the 3 most important, vital aspects of creating a newsletter; and that's Information.

When creating anything on the internet, it should contain information, but most people don't seem to get the idea of what REAL information actually is.
So I broke the information gathering process, down to 3 different parts that will help you discover how to write the REAL information...

1. Helps the reader
2. Clearly told
3. Simplified

These 3 things not only guarantee that what you're presenting is actual information that will increase your newsletters credibility, but it is also the basis of creating anything that is worth talking about in the online community.

I use these three steps whenever I create a new product, and it has always worked out as to helping out my readers, and customers. So I know that this list will help you create a product that will turn into your greatest asset.

Help The Reader

The goal of any newsletter, is to help your reader improve his/her life in any way possible, by giving them valuable and helpful information. This is the most important aspect of creating a newsletter (and any other product you plan on creating online) and should be thought of carefully.

Don't just throw in crap-balls of stuff you know, and think that it's going to make your newsletter sing. You have to put in information that is clearly told, simple to read, and is jam packed with information that will forever change your readers life. That is how you create an award winning newsletter, than will make your more than a hundred dollars a week!

Writing Down Topics

Before writing anything in your newsletter, take out a piece of paper and write down some ideas of what you want to write about in the issue. Make sure that you put down all of your ideas, and not try to come up with something in your head. It's much easier to write it down, and then come back to it later for the next issue, so you can talk about something else.

Try to come up with about 10-20 different topics that you can include in your issue. If you can't, than your newsletter isn't ready to be created yet. So go back to the drawing board, research your niche, and then come back to the idea of creating a newsletter when you've got more information rolling through your mind.

Now that you have your topics written down, it's time to narrow down on what you want to write about.

Who Are Your Readers?

First, it's best if you figure out who exactly your readers are, and what they'll enjoy reading about. Don't just pick some random subject to write about. Remember...you're sending your newsletter to your opt-in list! So make sure that it's relevant to what they opted-in to know about!

If you have multiple opt-in campaigns, but only one newsletter. That's fine! Just find the campaign that has the most amount of subscribers, and base most of your information around them. And make sure to add information for your other campaigns as well...so as not to leave them out.

If you have multiple campaigns, that are on entirely different sides of the scope, then I suggest that you write more than one newsletter. Make sure that your newsletters are relevant to your opt-in list! If that means that you'll have to write more...than so be it!

Picking Out A Topic

Once you're done finding out who your readers are, it's time to pick out the topics that are most relevant to your readers. Pick around 5-6 topics that are the most related to your opt-in'ers. Don't pick fly fishing as your topic, when your market wants to know about fish supplies. They're two entirely different subjects!

After you've picked out at least 5 topics, and at the most 6 topics, than you've finally got something that will help your reader!

Clearly Told

Now that you have your topics picked out, you've got to clearly tell it to your readers. Don't just start writing random thoughts, or make it up as you go along. Actually think of what you're going to say, and find ways to break it up into sections.

Describe almost every step clearly, and make it easy to read. Don't put it "LoL" or other online acronyms. Now only will it turn-off your readers, but it will also decrease your credibility. Write your newsletter in third person, and stick to the point. Don't run off topic!

Clearly state what you have to say, and make sure that you break it up into different categories, so it's easier for your readers to read.

Simplified

Now it's time to simplify what you've just written. Take out anything that might be too confusing, and replace it with a much more easier way of describing it. Sometimes, I find it easier to just show my readers, rather than tell them. So I make videos to help them out, or search for some on YouTube.

To simply put it. If there's a way to help your readers better understand what you're saying, than do it. Make sure that your readers know what you're talking about, and if picture, or video examples are necessary, than do it! Make your readers feel like a king! Simplify it, and make it easy for them to understand! That's the secret to creating a wonderful post in a newsletter!

If you just use these simple rules when writing out your newsletter, there is no doubt in my mind, that you'll be able to create a product that is information filled-to-the-top, and make the readers begging for more!

Strategic Strategy of A Newsletter

If you don't have a newsletter, you're missing out on more than hundreds of dollars with your email subscribers. I'm not kidding, and the common sense knows that it's true.

Newsletters are not only an easy way to serve as a catch-all for all of your subscribers, but it's an amazing way to create a larger income online, and also increase your amount of subscriber promotion.

What A Newsletter Can Do For Your Business

There are a number of things that a newsletter can do for your business, and it's actually the building blocks of what your business should be made up by.

1. Build a relationship with your subscribers
2. Serve as a catch-all for all of your subscribers
3. Promote your new and upcoming products/ventures
4. Cross-promote between your different auto-responder campaigns

These are all vital parts to a business, and should be used, and exploited properly in your online newsletters.

Build A Relationship With Your Subscribers

Newsletters act as sort of information guide that you can freely give away to your subscribers, and your subscribers enjoy reading up on it. Your newsletter should contain different ways that their subscriber can better their life in some way, and if it does, than your newsletter will be happily read by your subscribers.

By helping them better their life, you increase your relationship with your subscriber, and show them how much you care for them, and want them to succeed in life. If you're in the niche of fishing, than talk about different fishing tactics, and what fish are in season, or are about to be in season. That way, you help your subscriber out in his life, and he in turns, trusts, and relies on you more and more with each valuable issue.

BUT...it only works if you create your newsletter the right way, and don't plug in invaluable content that you subscriber doesn't need. If you can do that, than you will be able to create a powerful relationship between you and your subscriber, which will help you out in the long run...as you will see later on in this post.

Serve As A Catch-All For All of Your Subscribers

You could have more than a hundred people in different campaigns of your auto-responder accounts, but you can still use your newsletter (if you stay within your general niche) for all of your campaigns. Don't just give away an e-book. Attach a newsletter subscription to your e-book, and now you've got your customer hooked with your newsletter.

Your newsletter serves as a sort of catch-all, that will collect all of your subscribers, until you create a new product, or find a new venture that you promote. (Can you see how these strategies flow together?)

Promote Your New and/or Upcoming Products/Ventures

Now that you've got a relationship build with your subscriber, when you promote your new products, or upcoming ventures that you want your subscribers to partake in, you've got no worry of anyone denying your product.

As long as you keep putting up valuable information, than you'll no doubt, be able to promote your new products/ventures, and automatically pick-up subscribers that are interested in what you're doing. But it can't just be a little memo, it has to be an article describing what it is, what your subscribers have to do, and how it can benefit them.

Cross-Promote Between Your Different Auto-Responder Campaigns

You can do this whenever you feel like it, and it proves to work wonders. You can promote your other products within your newsletter to help cross-promote between your auto-responder campaigns, and create a more targeted market.

Cross-promotions and newsletters go hand-in-hand, and should be taken advantage of whenever possible.

But remember, this newsletter strategy needs to apply to three things.

1. It must be high in Information
2. It must be high in Quality
3. It must be high in Entertainment

And we'll be talking about each one in my next following posts. That's right my readers! There's going to be a continuation of this post! So keep in touch!
